About
The Newark Department of Health & Community Wellness is a municipal health department that provides primary health care access, social, and environmental services to Newark residents. Through the Mary Eliza Mahoney Health Center, which operates at four locations throughout the city, the department delivers affordable, high-quality, and comprehensive primary care to the medically underserved population, including those who are uninsured, underinsured, undocumented, and unable to pay. Eligible clients receive services at no cost.
The department's mission is to provide and advocate for comprehensive health care, social, and environmental services that enable Newark citizens and other consumers to attain an optimal level of health and well-being. The department does not provide emergency care services but works with community partners such as University Hospital, Beth Israel Hospital, and St. Michael's Hospital to ensure residents have access to emergency services when needed.
